Packing efficiently can save time, money, and protect your belongings. Follow these expert tips to make your packing process smoother and safer.

General Packing Tips

  • Start early: Begin packing non-essential items weeks in advance
  • One room at a time: Complete one room before moving to the next
  • Label everything: Write room name and contents on each box
  • Heavy items in small boxes: Keep boxes under 30kg for safety
  • Fill empty spaces: Use packing paper or bubble wrap to prevent shifting
  • Don't overpack: Boxes should close easily without bulging
  • Pack essentials separately: Keep items you'll need immediately in one box
  • Take photos: Document valuable items before packing

Packing Fragile Items

Dishes & Glassware

  • Wrap each item individually in packing paper or bubble wrap
  • Place plates vertically in boxes (never flat)
  • Use dish boxes with dividers when possible
  • Fill gaps with crumpled paper to prevent movement
  • Label boxes as "FRAGILE" on all sides

Electronics

  • Use original boxes when available
  • Wrap in bubble wrap or anti-static material
  • Remove batteries from devices
  • Take photos of cable connections before disconnecting
  • Pack cables separately in labeled bags

Artwork & Mirrors

  • Use specialty picture/mirror boxes
  • Wrap in bubble wrap and cardboard
  • Mark as "FRAGILE" and "THIS SIDE UP"
  • Never lay flat - always transport vertically

Clothing
  • Use wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes
